The purpose of the Public Education Unit is to educate the public about fisheries and the fishing industry using appropriate channels.  The unit seeks to make fisheries issues relevant to the different segments of society and to tailor educational materials and programmes to meet specific needs.  The content of the information disseminated is not only to educate, but to motivate target audiences to take up the essential roles they play in the proper management of fisheries resources and the development of the fishing industry.  It works with other units within the Division to implement fisheries operational plans and to achieve the overall mission of the Division.  It also works with the Fisherman’s Day Committee, fisher folk organisations and other stakeholders in the fishing industry to disseminate relevant information.
