Tuesday, 5th December - Wednesday, 6th December, 2023: The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Rural Transformation, Industry and Labour is in the process of developing a new plan for the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries sector to cover the period 2024 - 2029.

This plan will attempt to highlight the important activities that need to be implemented to transform the sectors over the period. Dr. Govind Seepersad, Agricultural Economist, UWI Lecturer and Consultant, was recruited by IICA to perform extensive assessments of each sector and submit findings and recommendations.

The Ministry of Agriculture with assistance from the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) held validation meetings on Tuesday, 5th December, 2023 and Wednesday, 6th December, 2023 for the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Sector Development Plan. These validation meetings provided perspectives on the state of the three (3) sectors as well as recommended courses of action to further their growth during the planned term.

On both days, several stakeholders from each sector were allowed to express their perspectives. This strategy was chosen to allow persons to submit further feedback on the suggested plan, with the goal of ensuring that the final result is accepted by the vast majority of clients.

Day 1 (Tuesday, 5th December, 2023) - Presentation on the Agricultural Sector Review and Proposed Priorities for 2024 - 2029.
Day 2 (Wednesday, 6th December, 2023) - Presentation on the Fisheries Sector Review and Proposed Priorities for 2024 - 2029.

The presentation took place at the NIS Conference Room.
