Restoration work has begun on the largest mangrove forest and lagoon in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The work, which is led by local Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Sustainable Grenadines Inc., will create breaches in strategic areas of the abandoned marina piers. This will create water circulation in the area which has been almost stagnant for the last 20 years.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Transformation, Forestry and Fisheries in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations hosted an Inception Workshop on the Agriculture Land Bank Project on Friday 10th November 2017 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Commerce Conference Room. The project is aimed at the establishment of a pilot land bank, prepare an institutional framework and operational guidelines for the establishment and operation of a national land bank.
The Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the Richmond Vale Academy and the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Preservation Fund launched the National Soursop Planting Project on the Thursday 9th November 2017 at the Diamonds Primary School. The children of the Diamonds Primary School were given the privilege to plant the first set of soursop trees on their grounds.
