Persons involved in the Apiculture Industry are this week receiving income support from the Government, amounting to close to a quarter million dollars.

This, from Minister of Agriculture, Saboto Caesar, as he provided an update on the support being provided to persons affected by Hurricane Beryl.

"There are many persons who do not appreciate that in Union Island Apiculture is a big thing when you compare it to the national production. It's a large percentage of the honey in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is produced in Union Island and also in Bequia, and we have provided for the Honey Producers in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines one hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($150,000.00) to assist and we are going to take that up to close to quarter million dollars ($250,000.00) because there are many producers who were impacted by the volcanic eruptions, the ash destroyed their production areas and now with the hurricane."

The Minister is urging the Beekeepers to submit the necessary information to the Beekeeping Extension Officer, for the processing of their income support.

"So we are addressing that this week and for persons who are following this morning's programme, if you are in the production of honey, I want for you to contact the extension officer who is working with you and provide him with your information. They would need a print out of your ID Card or your Farmer's ID, your National ID or your Farmer's ID, because we are sending that information to the treasury so that they can send the monies to your bank account."
