This year there will be major shifts in the structures and management systems to make the Ministry of Agriculture more climate ready.
Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Rural Transformation, Industry and Labour, Saboto Caesar, made this statement during his contribution to the 2025 budget debate on Friday, 17th January, 2025.
He notes these shifts will be made in the context of this year’s budget, so that this country can celebrate being the most climate smart and climate ready agriculture sector in the region.
Minister Caesar stated: "We have to tune our ears as to what the scientist, the people who are studying this thing are saying, the FOA have noted that if Global trends continue by 2050 we will have major food shortages in the world. Accordingly, within the context of Budget 2025 the Ministry within the month of February will be signing an MOU with (CARDI) the organisation for research and development in agriculture in CARICOM, so that we can begin to look at further training. This will impact all of the technicians at the MCA, the FSC, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, research and implement or perish."
