President of the National Fisher-folk Organization Winsbert Harry is warning Fisher-folk of the effects of climate change and is urging fishers to be proactive when it comes to safety.
In an interview, while speaking about the growing unpredictability of weather patterns and changes in fish migration, Harry urged all Fisher-folk to pay close attention to weather alerts and take necessary precautions before heading out to sea.
He also called on experienced fishers and those with safety training to share their knowledge with others to help build a stronger, safer and more resilient fishing cooperative.
"Climate Change is here, it is real, the weather pattern, please listen to NBC Radio to get your weather update, please tune in to make sure that you do not make a mistake that would leave your loved ones crying and loss for you. Fisher-folk that who benefit from the UBEC Project looking at safety I'm encouraging them to pass that training to the crew and to persons as well within the fishing community. Persons who benefiting from the capacity development within fishing, to strengthen the cooperative I encourage them so."
